William, who succeeded his father, Malcolm IV in 1165, was known as William the Lion. Our first positive evidence that the lion rampant had become “the Arms of Dominion of Scotland” was in 1222, when it appeared in the seal of his son, Alexander II. Before this time, the Scottish royal standard bore a dragon. We know of legendary use of the lion rampant by Fergus I in 300 BC.

Alaska Flag – AK State Flags for Sale
Outdoor Nylon
Sale: 3×5 ft
Alaska entered the Union in 1959, but its flag dates to 1927 and a contest held by the American Legion. The territory of Alaska had no flag of its own, and one was needed. The prize was awarded to John Bell (Benny) Benson, a 13-year old Aleut who lived in an orphanage in Seward. In his submission, Benny said that the “…blue field is for the Alaska sky and the forget-me-not, an Alaskan flower.” Benny also explained that the “…Dipper is for the Great Bear – symbolizing strength.” In the upper right the North Star is shown, “…for the future state of Alaska, the most northerly in the Union.” On the flag, Polaris, the North Star, is larger than the stars of the Big Dipper.

CustomerFlags came quick and the quality was as expected. It was nice to have a cloth option as I intended to hang the flag indoors.
CustomerI couldn’t be happier with the quality of this flag. The package arrived at my office while I was away, and unveiling it for the first time was an amazing moment for both myself and those around me. Most didn’t immediately recognize which country the flag represented, but everyone was impressed by its vibrancy, craftsmanship, and overall appearance. I look forward to keeping and displaying it proudly for many years to come.
